All About Vape Coils

Vaping has become popular over the past decade, but the components and terminology can be confusing for those who are new to vaping. There are lots of different vape devices along with lots of vape juices that you can use with these devices. The coil is a very important component of the vaping device.

While each part of the vaping device can change up the vaping experience, the most impactful component of any vaping device is the coil. This is the heart and soil of the device. Your vaping experience can change depending on what coil you use. It affects the flavor production and vapor production. If you want lots of flavor or vapor, or a mix between both, consider the type of coil you’re going to use.

In this article, the eJuices.com team is going to dive into vape coils and everything you need to know about them. What are coils? What are the different types of coils? How can you find the best coil for your vaping experience? Whether you’re new to vaping or have tried all the vape juices you can get your hands on, this article will help you understand coils better so you can make informed decisions on your future purchases and vaping experiences.

What Are Vape Coils?

Put simply, vape coils are the part of your device that turns vape juice into vapor, but there is a lot more to them than that. Coils are carefully designed to be highly efficient with a small amount of energy. The coil in your vape utilizes energy from the battery to rapidly heat ejuice and turn it from a liquid form to a vapor.

There are a bunch of different types of coils out there, so this isn’t a “one size fits all” situation. Not only will your device require a specific size and type of coil, but within those specifications you can choose from a multitude of different coils that offer their own unique set of advantages.

3 Common Types of Coils

There is nothing more disappointing than getting a fresh pack of coils in the mail just to realize that they don’t provide the experience you’d hoped for. Fortunately, this situation can be avoided with a minimal amount of effort and understanding. Let’s take a look at the three most common types of coils and what unique advantages they provide.

  • Stainless Steel

First on our list is the most common type of coil on the market. Stainless steel coils have been around since the beginning and have paved the way for every other coil out there. That being said, stainless steel vape coils are not at all obsolete. These are still one of the most popular types of coils because they are durable, resistant to high temperature, and are great at atomizing ejuice. If you’re looking for a coil that’s reliable and going to last a long time, you should definitely check out some stainless steel coils.

  • Ceramic

Ceramic coils are right behind stainless steel in regards to popularity. These coils are made of porous ceramic and are a bit more fragile, but have a reputation for enhancing flavor. They also work exceedingly well at high wattages. While these are slightly more expensive and don’t last quite as long as stainless steel coils, many vape enthusiasts prefer ceramic coils and believe they are worth the investment.

  • Kanthal

Kanthal coils are probably the most sophisticated coil available. These are made with a combination of iron, aluminum, and chromium. The materials used in this coil allow it to heat up very quickly which means you can expect huge clouds of vapor. Many professional vapers utilize Kanthal coils for competitions. If you want a vape coil that provides huge clouds and boasts a minimal heat up time, Kanthal might be the perfect fit.

Understanding Ohms

There is a lot of terminology involved in vaping and some of it is down-right scientific. You may remember hearing about ohms in your physics class, but like so many things we learn in school, its definition probably went as fast as it came. It is important for vapers to know what ohms are but luckily we only need a simple understanding.

Ohms are a unit of measurement used to define the level of resistance between two points of a coil (or any conductor). The higher the ohms, the greater the level of resistance. When a high resistance coil is used with a low voltage, the current is lower. This means smaller, but more flavorful clouds. It also means your battery will last longer. When you use a low resistance coil with a higher voltage, your battery won't last as long, but you'll get to enjoy huge, satisfying clouds.

Using an Appropriate Vape Juice and Coil Combination

Not all vape juices are the same—and neither are coils. The two most common types of vape juices are nic salts and regular vape juice. Those who are new to vaping or just prefer a higher nicotine concentration might start off with nic salts. While they are both liquid, nic salts contain between 20mg to 50mg of nicotine and require a coil with high resistance.

Regular vape juice has a lower level of nicotine. Most vape juices have nicotine strengths between 2mg to 12mg, with most eJuices.com customers choosing to vape at 3mg or 6mg. Vape juice can be vaped with either sub-ohm coils or higher resistance coils. The type of coil you should use comes down to the device specifications and personal preference.

Vape Coil Maintenance

How long will your vape coil last? This depends on your own vaping habits. Coils can last anywhere between two days to two months. If you vape daily, you should expect to swap out your vape coils every two weeks. How will you know if it’s time to change your coil? Usually, when you taste cotton or the puffs are harsher than normal, it’s time to change your coil.

Changing the coil has never been easier in a vaping device. All you need to do is follow the

directions included with your device. While all devices are different, you need to empty the vape juice from the tank, remove your old coil, and replace it with a new coil, and then refill the tank with your favorite vape juice. You will then need to soak the coil in the vape juice for about 30 seconds so you can get the most flavor out of the vape juice. Vape coils are an essential part of vaping, and they are easy to change and simple to maintain.
